LYRA ACAPELLA GROUP
The Russian vocalists were outstanding! Their voices were incredible and their
interactions with the audience charming, witty and genuine. We all learned a lot

Castle before heading to Santa Maria for tonight’s performance.

Dear Church Family,

Here is the most recent information regarding the life of our parish:

Our sincerest sympathy to Anna Mae Wagner on the loss of her brother, Cecil Spring, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 98. God bless Cecil, and please keep both Cecil and Anna Mae in your prayers.

Palm Sunday:  This Sunday we will hold only one service, as we observe Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. Our service will start at 9:30 am, in the Parish Hall. For the complete list of Holy Week services and activities, please see the calendar on the back page of the Palm Sunday bulletin.

The last chance to bring unscented pillar candles for Maundy Thursday’s overnight vigil is Palm Sunday.  Please place your donated candles in the basket in the Parish Hall.

Also in the Parish Hall….a sample group of wedding photos from today’s wedding. You’ll find them on the wood partition near the CARES desk.  Many thanks to Van and Alva Jahnes-Smith, Barbara Marks, Joni Michel and Kate
Hepworth for their part in making it a lovely service. Soon, photos will also be posted on our website at
www.stpaulscambria.org

In the meantime, here is a preview of coming attractions, so to speak, from the Blessing of Marriage of Colleen dePerna and Michael Diehl.

Enjoy, and Blessings to

March 15, 2013

Dear Church Family,
Advance thanks to all of our Holy Week and Easter volunteers for your upcoming service, whether you are a first-time volunteer, seasonal volunteer, or year-round worship service volunteer. We are grateful for all of your support during this busy, but wonderful season. I have sent two versions of the same schedule, since some of you have trouble open one or the other.  As always, I have tried to accommodate everyone’s special needs or vacation dates as much as I have been given advance info about them. My apologies to those receiving this schedule as part of your weekly updates, but there are more folks volunteering than not, so it made it much easier to distribute the info this way.

Click here for Holy Week Volunteer Schedule

And now for your parish updates...

Easter flowers and music:  Please submit all Easter program tributes ASAP to assure that your loved one or thanksgiving is listed in our Easter bulletins, which go into production next week.
Unscented pillar candles are now being collected for our Maundy Thursday Vigil. Please bring any you’d like to donate to our next two Sunday services ( March 17 and March 24). ALL CANDLES MUST BE FREE STANDING FOR SAFETY REASONS.
Wednesday, March 20th
A Blessing of Marriage
will take place at 3 pm in our Sanctuary, so staff will be unavailable from 2:00 pm to about 4:00 pm.
Healing Service: Service begins at 5 pm with our final Soup Supper immediately following. Thanks to all who have been helping to host our Soup Suppers during Lent.
Audio Visual Upgrade:  Installation is underway. I was able to monitor the work being done in the sanctuary from the open door of my office, since now there is a TV monitor mounted in the Library.   Below is a still photo of the live action (if that makes sense) taken of the Library’s TV monitor as Steve Reilly (center) and Van Jahnes-Smith (far right) were checking out the progress in the sanctuary this afternoon (prior to the
sanctuary camera’s final adjustments).
Blessings to All !

And now for your parish updates…

03/05/2013
Hi Everyone,
A few things to address before we get knee-deep into the week:
Service and soup:
Tomorrow (Wednesday) we continue our midweek Lenten service at 5 pm followed by another Soup Supper.   Thank you to this week’s hosts who have volunteered for set up, clean up and/or  soup and bread: Barbara Hagiwara, Rosie Leidig, The Dallmanns and Barbara Marks.

March 20th Soup Supper hosts are needed!
Due to a clerical error ( yes, I am the one who goofed!), I listed Vestry’s
dinner night as March 20th on the Soup Supper sign-up sheet, when
really Vestry’s night is Thursday, March 28th. SO HELP MR. WIZARD! We need volunteers to host the Wednesday Soup Supper on March 20th. See the sign-up sheet in the Parish Hall if interested.
Thanks!

SPRING FORWARD FOR DAYLIGHT So before you nod off to sleep this coming Saturday night, make sure to turn your clocks forward one hour, or your cheeks may end up as red as our sanctuary doors if you arrive late to church!

A FEW UNSCENTED CANDLES are needed for our Maundy Thursday overnight vigil, to replace the scented ones that were accidentally donated. Just drop them off in the office before Monday, March 25th.
Soon we will also start recruiting for vigil shifts. More info soon.

Peace to you,

Offering forms for Easter flowers or music are now in the sanctuary and the form is also included here for your convenience.

Dear Church Family,
Attached is what I hope is the most complete recording of activities for February, based on available information.

Please note these time sensitive items:

This Sunday, February 3, is Outreach Sunday. We will be turning in our Cups for the Hungry offerings that we have been making in our homes at meal time. In addition, a reminder that this is the last Sunday before next Thursday’s food distribution day. In addition to donations, volunteers are always needed to bag on the day before the giveaway (in February, that is this coming Wednesday, the 6th), at 10 am at Santa Rosa Catholic Church.
The food distribution takes place on this coming Thursday at 5:30 am.

USHERS ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY AS ARE COFFEE HOSTS. PLEASE  HELP WHERE YOU CAN. Thanks.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is scheduled for Tuesday,  February 12th. Volunteers are needed. Sign up in the Parish Hall.

LENT BEGINS Wednesday, February 13th. Our Ash Wednesday service begins at 12 noon.

Two new groups are now meeting at our church facility:  Women’s AA (Wednesdays mid-day) and Family Resourcing (Wednesday evenings;
closed meeting). Because of increased usage of our facility by outside groups, it is extremely important that all church groups check with the parish office and check the campus calendars to make sure they are not scheduling a meeting for a day/time already reserved for another group. Please report all scheduled meetings to the office to be placed on the master calendar. Doing so will minimize conflicts and assure the privacy of the recovery or support groups meeting here. Thank you.

Please remind fellow parishioners without electronic access, that paper copies of the calendar are available from the ushers’cart.

Blessings to you all.

Dear Church Family,
Here are your updates in the life of the church:
Saturday, January 19th1 pm:

        Ted Inouye’s memorial service,
here at St. Paul’s.
Those on the schedule to serve on that day:
Betty Malone, Acolyte and
Chalice; Don Dallmann 2ndchalice; Doug and Georgia  Spelts, Presenters of the
Elements; Amanda Stimson, Frank Michel and Gay Blundell, Readers; Kate
Hepworth, Music Director; Bill Baker, Frank Johnson, John Helps and Van
Jahnes-Smith, Ushers; Joni Michel, Hospitality Coordinator, Sue Johnson and
Dick DeLauer, Altar Guild. Thanks to everyone who responded to my call for
volunteers…the response was tremendous and a wonderful demonstration of
love for Ted, Miyo and family.

At around 2:30, participants in the weekly AA group may begin arriving on campus, so PLEASE DO NOT USE THE LIBRARY OR LOWER LEVEL RESTROOMS DURING THAT TIME if you find yourself still on campus after the service. Thanks!

Sunday, January 20th, 9:30 am: ONE SERVICE! (In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King). Guests vocalists at the service, followed by our annual parish brunch and meeting. Please plan to attend.

Coins for the Hungry Program Our current Outreach effort, Coins for the Hungry, continues through February 3rd. Parishioners are encouraged to make an offering before meals so that others, too, may be fed. Once you have filled your offering cup, please continue to hold on to it until Outreach Sunday on February 3rd. All participants will be presenting their proceeds at one time during the service. For more info on the program, contact Van Jahnes-Smith: 924-1443. Thanks for your support.

Annual Report and service bulletin production:  Due to the high volume of printing and assembling which the office must complete for this weekend’s events, public hours on Wednesday and/or Thursday, may be shortened to complete all tasks by close of business Thursday. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Huntley Lewis’s knee surgery went well; and so far her post-surgery is going just as expected.

Women’s AA will begin meeting weekly on Wednesdays, in our Library starting Wednesday, January 23rd. Access to the Library will be restricted from 11:30 am to 1:20 pm on those days. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in assuring their members’privacy.

Blessings to you all,

Phantom Visitor: Recently, late one evening,  just before Christmas, at about 10 pm, our Parish Hall doors were found propped open with the interior lights on. After checking the interior, Fr. Fred determined that nothing was missing or damaged. We ask that when visiting campus, you make sure the doors are secure and lights off before leaving. Thanks
for your cooperation.

Annual Reports: Because of multiple project deadlines that are coming up in the next 2 weeks, this must be my last request
for info, from those individuals or groups that typically contribute to our Annual Report. Late submissions may not be able to be included in the printed booklet, as it will soon be passed on for proofing then printed; so please  submit any info ASAP. Thank you to those who have already met the deadline.

Welcome!
This month we will welcome a Women’s AA group to our extended family. The group will be meeting Wednesdays at noon in the Library beginning January 23rd. It may take a while before we all get into the habit of not entering the Library during the time of the group’s meeting, but within a couple of months hopefully we will all be used to the new routine.  They will have access to the room from 11:45 am until 1:25 pm.

Volunteer schedules for January will be emailed separately by Saturday and will also hopefully be posted on the Parish Hall bulletin board for your review on Sunday, January 6th.

Meeting Room Reminder:  A reminder to all church and church-affiliated community groups using the Library meeting room: Please straighten the chairs (returning them to their original arrangement)  and tidy up your area, before leaving. During the cold months, please also check the heaters before leaving to see if they need turning off, even if you did not turn them on. The heaters may have been turned on in advance of your arrival for your comfort.

Christmas Eve:

Enjoy the Christmas Eve photo taken by David Gerhardt. I love how he captured the candle glow while everyone sang
"Silent Night" led by the Dallman Family and Dan Fields on the guitar (as it was originally written)!

Dear Church Family,
Here are your updates for this week and for the next several days:

Guess who’s coming to dinner services? Father Lyle Grosjean will be serving as supply clergy this week. Please give him and his wife, Sue, a warm St. Paul’s welcome when you see them.

You’ve got mail! Please check the ushers’cart this Sunday for a special message from Fr. Fred. Please spread the word to those without email.

Things that go bump ( or thump) in the night: If you will be visiting campus after dark, and have the opportunity to let me know ahead of time (on office days), that would be greatly appreciated. It gets pretty dark around here in the evening and there is no easy way of knowing who is on campus and what their intentions are. Last week someone was pounding on the door late after dark- a stranger- wanting in the building to use our facilities. It would just put my mind at ease if I knew who the footsteps above my office or on the deck/stairs belonged to, so to speak.
Thanks.

Christmas bulletin is now in production and boy, are those bulletin elves keeping busy! To have your tribute included in the bulletin: Please have any tribute offerings for Christmas music or flora to the office by Sunday the 16th. Final revisions to the bulletin’s limited space take place Monday the 17th, and space cannot be reformatted after that time. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Where’s Waldo Michelle ?
FYI, the last open day for the office before Christmas is Thursday, December 20th. Any non-urgent items for inclusion in the December  30th 9:30 am Morning Prayer bulletin, should be submitted by next Tuesday, December 18th.

Bulletin buzz: Please read all announcements in your Sunday bulletins or on the Parish Hall bulletin board to keep up with important service info ( time changes, etc) or other time-sensitive matters.

Thanks,

Don Dallmann is home after gall bladder surgery. The surgery was a success although he is still in quite a bit of pain. He thanks you for your prayers and well wishes. Feel free to contact the Dallmanns by phone or email, but for now, he really needs to rest, so visitors are not encouraged.

Bulletin announcements: Please remember that the deadline for all bulletin submissions is 10 days prior to the intended publish date. Bulletins are formatted on the preceding weekend, proofed on Tuesdays, printed on Wednesdays, and folded, returned and placed in the sanctuary on Thursdays for each Sunday’s service(s). Finally, I want to thank everyone who has been praying for my sister, Dena, and our family, or pitched in to help in the office while our family guided her through her final days. My sister passed Monday evening surrounded by the love of family. I will still be on somewhat of a modified schedule for a few more weeks, but hope to get the rhythm of the office back soon. God Bless You All. Your support and patience enabled me to spend wonderfully precious time with my sister over the past 50 days; time that I will always cherish. Many Thanks.
