Dear Church Family,
I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather this week. Here are your updates for September 14, 2017:
Parish surveys- If you haven’t already done so, please return them by this Sunday, September 17. Your input is important. Thanks!
This Sunday, September 17 !! A very special Sunday indeed! During our 2nd service (10:30 am), The Rev. Roger Ferlo, Ph.D., President Emeritus of Bexley-Seabury Seminary, will confer upon Father Brian his doctorate degree. As Roger has emphasized, this is a degree that is also in many ways, one being conferred upon our congregation, since we all participated in Father Brian’s degree program by completing surveys, critiquing sermons, etc. So please plan to attend, or, if attending the early service, please plan to double back for the coffee hour after the 10:30 service, hosted by “Team Nancy”. Speaking of September 17’s Coffee Hour…Nancy Allen will be coordinating this but needs volunteers to help set-up at 11:30 on Saturday, or clean-up on Sunday. Please call her if you can help: 927-5373. Note: If you have a special recipe/dish that you would like to bring, please call and discuss it with her. Thank you!
Grief Group meets Tuesday, September 19th at 11 am.
Beautification Day, Saturday, September 23- Please RSVP to Mary Brockman 924-1450 by Monday September 18, if you can help with our Sept 23rd clean-up effort. (We want to make sure there are enough yard bags, water and food for everyone.) We are still in need of some green cans that can be filled at our parishioners’ residences to help reduce dump fees. Please help us give our grounds some much deserved TLC.
Attn. All Sunday volunteers: Please check your volunteer schedules regularly to make sure you are not scheduled to serve. Lately we have had several instances of people forgetting to show up on their assigned date. Thanks.
Sunday October 1st: Say “Cheese” then enjoy pie! As a gift to Father Brian, we are planning a congregational photo to be taken on October 1, after the 9:30 am service. Immediately after the photo shoot, we will hold the Annual Stewardship Pie Social. So plan to come and say, “Cheese”, then stay for some tasty pie. Note: We are also hoping to have extra copies of the congregational photo available for purchase; however, our contract does not include individual or small group sittings.
Beginning October 4: Women’s Gathering; Reading Jesus: The Human Face of God
This ecumenical discussion group, led by the Rev. Donna Ross, will meet on the first Wednesday of each month, starting October 4. We meet in St. Paul's Library, from 2 - 3:30 p.m. All women of St. Paul’s (and interested friends) are invited to join us as we look at the life and meaning of Jesus through the writing of Jay Parini, Professor of English and Creative Writing at Middlebury College. To see an interview with Jay Parini on the PBS Newshour (8 minutes) go to http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/religion-july-dec13-jesus_12-25/
IMPORTANT NOTE: To register for these discussions (and get a copy of the book) email email@example.com or call 927-1989.
600 gallons gone in a flash! Over the past week we lost at least 600 of donated water from our storage tank. Initially it was thought that we had been the latest victims of the water thefts rumored to be occurring around town. Upon further investigation it appears that the loss was caused by operator error. So please note: Anyone using the water from the large tank to water landscaping etc, make sure to remember to close the tank’s main valve completely, and also make sure the two hose nozzles are shut off before you leave. Thanks.
“Notes” from the Music Director–A new approach to Sunday music underway. We are now offering “Open Pew” Sundays, where anyone who enjoys singing can join in the group-singing of an Offertory anthem, on several upcoming Sundays without having to commit to mid-week rehearsals. Just show up a little early on Sunday. Here is the list of "Open Pew" Sundays. If the service is at 10:30 then we will meet at 9:50, or if it is at 9:30 then we will aim to be rehearsing by 8:50. ALSO: If you are prepared to offer your talents as a soloist, duettist or other..please take note of the dates when we will not be singing and notify me of which would suit you. The sooner I know, the sooner I can prepare the music and meet with you to perform. Thanks. -Kate
