Dear Church Family,
Happy Cinco de Mayo! This was a short week for the office, but as the week comes to a close we are buzzing along without a hitch. Here are your updates for Thursday, May 5:
May St. Paul’s Helper is Anne Harris Smith.
Changes to your Sunday bulletin: In the next few weeks we will be revising the Sunday bulletin. Noticeable changes will include the omission of printed names for the Prayers of the People (they will still be entered into the book, and read aloud), less printed text in the Holy Communion section, and scripture readings that will be printed larger so it is easier for everyone to follow along. Your BCP will definitely come in handy. I’d also like to encourage folks to share bulletins when practical to do so. This will help conserve paper and lower printing costs.
Other changes to worship elements: Beginning on May 15th, we will have different Prayers of the People each week. The Peoples response only, will be printed in the bulletin. The prayers are being developed by Fred Stimson and Donna Ross and are absolutely beautiful. Just think, we will get to have Fred back in worship with us, so to speak, because of this special gift!
Thank you Fred and Donna!
Sunday May 8th – 2 services. Happy Mother’s Day, and Happy Women’s Appreciation Day to ALL of our parish women! You all, in your own special ways, nurture, mentor, teach, serve, and love others. Many thanks for all you do!
May 11th- Canterbury event: This coming Wednesday, May 11th, at 6:30pm The Shire (an interfaith, spiritual center located at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1344 Nipomo St., SLO) will host an exciting, new monthly Feminist Theology Series. Berkeley Johnson, Chaplain to The Shire, has put this new series together to help facilitate a dialogue, from a feminist perspective, on our ancient texts. This month we'll begin with the story of "The Woman at the Well" from the Gospel according to John. For more information, please contact Berkeley Johnson directly: cell (805) 550-5133 or email@example.com
Adult Ed opportunities, weekly:
Mondays, 1:30 pm-3 pm- The Wisdom Jesus with
The Rev. Donna Ross
Wednesdays, 6 pm-7pm- Weekly scripture discussion
with Father Brian.
May 14, 9:30 am to 2 pm-Beautification Day on our grounds: Our landscaping needs some TLC! If you can weed, hoe, trim, sweep, rake, hedge, lop or bag green waste clippings, we would LOVE your help. Volunteers are asked to bring pruning shears, heavy-duty rakes and leaf rakes; brooms, loppers, shovels, work gloves or other necessities for whatever tasks you hope to complete. Water and sunscreen are also advised. Lunch provided. Please RSVP so we know how much food to order for lunch: 924-1450! ATTENTION ALTAR GUILD, COFFEE HOSTS, ETC: Because the beautification volunteers will need access to the library restroom and kitchen, our Saturday recovery groups are being relocated upstairs on Sat. May 14. THEREFORE, THE HALL WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO PARISHIONERS (including grounds volunteers) FROM 9:30 am TO 11:15 am or FROM 2:30 PM TO 4:20 PM. Your cooperation is appreciated.
May 15: Pentecost Sunday: Please consider wearing red. Check out the beautiful dove Kate’s daughter, Lily drew, featured on this Sunday’s bulletin page promoting Pentecost.
A message from Fran Conklin: Many, many thanks to all of you in my church family, for all of the prayers, cards and support during my recent surgery and rehabilitation period down south. I am so glad to be home and with you all again! Thank you!
Campus Maintenance Projects aka PAINT, PAINT AND MORE PAINT!: May 30 through mid-June has been tentatively identified as the period of time during which you may find certain areas of the church property temporarily closed. We will try to publish them in advance and provide signage regarding alternate ways of accessing our buildings. A huge thank you to Frank Schutz and Doug Wong for taking on this maintenance project. More information on how others can help will be coming soon.
Enjoy the heart cloud, photographed last week in Yosemite. God loves us! The signs are everywhere.
