Here are some important announcements:
Senior Warden letter: Please find attached an important letter from Senior Warden Julian Crocker. It is provided in 2 versions, for your reading ease. (Note: The web portion of this message contains the PDF Version for viewing.)
Sanctuary: Please call Michelle before scheduling additional (extended) choir time, repairs, or other activities in the sanctuary December 1-5. Thanks. (Choir will still meet at their usual 1:30 pm time on Thursday.)
“I once was lost, but now, I’m found!”- That is what our stolen communion ware would be saying if the pieces could talk! All but one of our stolen items have recently been recovered by the SLO County Sheriff’s Office-Investigations bureau. While the investigation is still active, I can tell you that the items were recovered very recently but will remain in the custody of the S.O. for the next several months. Recovered were the chalice and paten set, lavabo bowl, ciborium (bread box) baptismal shell, and a pyx (small HE canister). The only item not recovered was the large paten. Wonderful, right? In the near future, I hope to have a thank you card displayed in the Parish Hall on the bulletin on which we can all sign for the two detectives who are working this case. Praise God!
Opportunities for Ministry (OFM) brochure: Apparently one or two of last year’s OFM brochures made their way into your 2015 stewardship packets. If your brochure is not dated 2014-2015, and fails to list the need for memorial bag embroiderers or a need for a “Scarecrew” to make a scarecrow next fall, you have last year’s information. (So far, we have only found 1 that wasn’t current.) Email me if you need the 2015 brochure and I will email it to you ASAP. Thanks!
This Sunday, November 23 is Giving Thanks Sunday! We will be donating our coins to Outreach’s treasure chest. The funds will go to support programs to aid the hungry. Outreach will receive coins from cups, baggies or pockets…it’s all appreciated!
Car Alert! Kate Hepworth’s vehicle is on its way out, and quite rapidly so! Anyone who has a car that they are planning to sell soon, please call Kate so she can perhaps take a look at it: 314-0886.
Sunday readings: As always, those who are assigned to serve as a Sunday Lector will receive their readings on the preceding Thursday afternoon. Feel free to look them up on line if you need them earlier: www.lectionarypage.net It is a very busy time in the office, so your patience in waiting until Thursday to receive your readings is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Toys for Tots: The annual gift collection for children and youth age newborn to 17 years has begun. Our barrel is located in the Parish Hall. Gifts valued at $15.00 or more are greatly appreciated. Checks are also accepted, and can be made payable to Toys for Tots, placed inside an envelope, and deposited in the barrel.
-Advent Series begins December 1, led by The Rev. Donna Ross.
Listening to the Word: The Prophet Isaiah Speaks to His World and Ours, will be held on three Mondays: Dec.1, 8, 15 from 1:30-3:00 pm, here in our Library/Chapel. Here is Donna’s description of the series:
“On these three Monday afternoons, we will 'listen' - that is, open our hearts - to readings from Isaiah. ‘Listening to the Word’ offers a meditative process for understanding the Scriptures: lectio divina, or 'holy listening', in a group setting. First as individuals, and then together as a group, we will listen to the Word – in the reading and in our own hearts - and then share what we are hearing. Everyone is welcomed to these discussions - men and women, church members and non-members, Christians and non-Christians.” -Donna
Note: RSVP’s for the series are very important. It will help ensure that Donna has enough readings for everyone, so please let her know ASAP if you are planning to attend: email@example.com . Please spread the word and let those without email know that they can RSVP by phone: 927-1989.
Announcing a Harmony Hike, Saturday, December 6th! Come celebrate Holy Eucharist on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, December 6th. Gather at the Harmony Headlands Trailhead (Highway 1 south of Harmony) at 12:45pm for the 1 pm walk. Along the trail listen to scripture, have a short time of silence, and end with Communion overlooking the ocean. All ages welcome. The moderate trail is somewhat easy, with gentle hills and a wide path. Cost - $3 to park in the parking lot. Sorry, pets are not allowed on the trail. Contact The Rev. Barbara Miller at
712-0650 for more info. (Yes, the same Barbara Miller that used to occupy my chair but now we can call her The Reverend Barbara Miller! How cool is that?!)
Cookie Outreach: December 13th: Do you know of someone in town who needs a little extra cheer this year? Please provide their name, address, phone and 1 or 2 lines about their situation so that our elves can personalize their Christmas card from everyone here at St. Paul’s. Cookie bakers: time to dust off those rolling pins (or in my case, open up that tube of cookie dough) and start your baking! Many thanks to those who are helping make this year’s event special!
Have a great week!
