Dear Church Family,
A Wonderful Thursday to All !
Here are your announcements for this week:
Anna Mae Wagner is home after her time in the rehab center! I am sure she would love to hear from her. Many thanks to Helen Allinder who has been assisting in her transition home, and to EVERYONE who has supported her through their cards and visits.
Alva Jahnes-Smith is home after having her abdominal surgery recently. The best way we can support her recovery right now is through prayers and cards; however she is still not up to calls or visits. She very much appreciates everyone’s recent gestures of love and support.
Urgently Needed: 2 or 3 bedroom rental- Stevie Green is needing to vacate her current rental by the end of March. Anyone knowing of a vacant home for rent, please contact Stevie at 927-2985. Cats must be OK to have. Stevie has 1 elementary school age daughter (Larika) with her full time, and 1 adult daughter who visits occasionally.
Harmony Hike This Saturday in San Ardo!
The next SLO Deanery Harmony Hike is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2015 on a ranch in San Ardo where there will be opportunities to enjoy wildflowers as participants hike and pray. Meet at the ranch house at 12:45pm; the walk begins promptly at 1pm and lasts about 1 hour. The fairly easy hike will include several stops to listen to scripture and reflect, then conclude with Communion among the wildflowers. GPS systems are unreliable out near the ranch so please call The Rev. Barbara Miller (712-0650) if you are interested in attending, so she can email the driving instructions to you.
Our final Lenten Mid-week Service and Soup Supper is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 25th. The Prayer Service begins at 5 pm, followed by our soup and fellowship time. Thank you Joni Michel, for hosting this week’s soup supper, and thanks in advance to Barbara Dallmann who has graciously offered to provide soup on the 25th.
Maundy Thursday Overnight Vigil, Good Friday Stations (Readers) and Good Friday confession/reconciliation sign ups are now open! Please see the Parish Hall bulletin board if you wish to be one of the in-home vigil watch-keepers, read for one or two of the 14 stations of the cross, or meet with Father Brian for a private Reconciliation session on Good Friday. To reserve a time for Reconciliation, simply place an “X” by a posted time-slot, then show up at that time.
(More info on each of these services is found below.) For those who sign up as a Reader for the Stations, you will find copies of The Way of the Cross in the sanctuary, should you wish to review your text prior to Good Friday.
Maundy Thursday Dinner and Eucharist
April 2nd 6:00 pm dinner followed by the service at 7:00 pm. The Overnight (in-home) Vigil begins at the conclusion of the service.
Good Friday: Stations begin at 12 noon in the sanctuary. Quiet meditation in the sanctuary begins immediately following the conclusion of the Stations and concludes at 2:25 pm. BCP liturgy begins at 2:30 pm. Opportunities for Reconciliation will be offered in the morning and during the Meditation Session, in Father Brian’s office.
Easter Sunday Services…will be held at 7 am and 9:30 am, both taking place in the sanctuary this year. At the 9:30 am, our wonderful St. Paul’s Choir as well as the Burnished Brass Quartet will provide our service music. After the 9:30 am service, we will hold a women’s/men’s Easter bonnet contest with a prize awarded in 2 categories. So dig through your closets and dust off your bonnets, derbies or fedoras, and please plan to be part of the festivities.
New Choir Practice Info: Beginning March 26, Choir will meet on Fridays in the Library-Chapel from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm (exception, week of March 29). For other church groups who occasionally meet, please note that the Library is no longer available during that time frame on Fridays.
We are entering the home stretch…As the end of Lent nears and Holy Week is right around the corner, Father Brian has a request:
Given the business of this time of year, and our deep appreciation for Michelle’s ministry, please be sensitive to what she must accomplish during business hours when the office is open. We request that if your matter takes more than a few minutes, or concerns a particularly sensitive matter, you call and set an appointment for after 3 pm when our office is closed to drop-ins. Thank you.
St. Patrick’s Breastplate was included in last night’s Evening Prayer Service. Here it is again:
St. Patrick’s Breastplate
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.
Have a great weekend!
